Description
Reminder: Learners must enroll individually for the course within the Cardea Training Center to receive the necessary resources and Zoom links. They will receive a confirmation email with enrollment information upon submission of this form.
Moving the conversation beyond “Are my disabled students sexually active?” to “How do I provide equitable sexuality education for my disabled and neurodivergent students?”, this training series includes three live 2.5 hour sessions with a demographic cohort of peers based on populations served, and three supplemental eLearning modules to deepen your learning.
Live sessions will focus on foundational considerations, the neurodiversity movement and supporting neurodivergent learners, and supporting students with physical impairments, respectively- following the initial session participants will self-elect either a Mid- or High-Support track depending on the needs of their students, making the second and third live sessions targeted to the specific populations served. eLearning content includes Cardea’s core modules for sex educators, a deep dive exploration of the foundational concepts introduced in the first live session, and a module on supporting students with sensory impairments.
Participants will get an overview of the disability rights movement, Sins Invalid’s disability justice framework, and major considerations to make sexuality education accessible for neurodivergent students and students with physical or sensory disabilities. As a foundation for this work, we will discuss ways we, as educators, can reckon with our own ableism in order to provide more inclusive, creative, and joyful instruction for all of our students, not just those with less common access needs.
